Every day, millions of people tell stories to their friends or family about whatever may be happening in their world, but when people are able to take those stories and turn them into something visually or rhythmically appealing, it becomes art. Storytelling is an integral part of artistry, and it always has been. Whether it’s as blatant as physicalizing a tale through acting or weaving emotion and intention into a song, the art we create conveys some sort of story one way or another. Breaking it down further, you can see even the smallest components of art give way to this ideal as the tone of words, shades of colors, and even the tempo of music channels emotion and feeling. When artists are able to focus these components into complete forms, their work almost always has something to share underneath. Humans have been telling stories since civilization’s dawn, and we have never stopped. Instead, we’ve only found ways to express them in more creative and meaningful fashions. As artists, it is our job to continue to tell, create, and keep these stories alive, while also having some fun along the way.
